Classic Program

The Oswego Classic program offers a competitive environment for our players aged between 10-14. This is a great place for our players to continue their development after graduating our Juniors Program or Youth Soccer Program. We have assembled a wonderful coaching staff, these coaches will work with an age group year-round and will look to create a safe, fun and intense training environment that will allow our players to develop into well-rounded individuals and soccer players.

Importance of GRIT

The core philosophy within any Lake Oswego SC program and for any Lake Oswego player is the importance of working as hard as they possibly can. We believe that if a player works as hard as they can then they will always improve, and this will maximize their ability to compete. More importantly, LOSC feels that this is a trait which if embraced by our players will benefit them off the field of play too. If players learn the value of giving their all in everything they do, then we will also be developing good family members, good students, and good contributing members of the community.

Development AND Winning

It is important to elaborate on where LOSC stands on the components of the philosophy, 'Development AND Winning'. Over the past 40 years LOSC has shown a commitment to both development and winning. Through the processes employed in all of our program's our players have developed. Specifically, in our Classics program we operate through stages of player centered development and team centered development. The latter is necessary as soccer is a 'team sport' so there are times of the season (State Cup and Semi Finals and Finals of tournaments) when we focus on the needs of the team more so than the needs of the individual. Fortunately, these instances are pretty rare and for the bulk of the year the club and the team are simply the vehicles through which we achieve individual development. Instead of focusing solely on 'Winning', we encourage our coaches and players to strive for excellence. By striving to follow the path to excellence, development and winning will follow as by- products.

Try-out Process (U11-14)

Try-out process for our Classics (U11-14) will be across two days and the length of each session will be 90 minutes. When observing players, we will obviously look at a player’s technical, physical and tactical attributes but our coaches will also look to select players based on how they receive information from coaches and interact with other players.

After the tryout, you will receive confirmation whether your soccer player has been selected or not. This is a tough process for any child to go through and our staff are aware of this, they will try their utmost to make all players feel as comfortable and as confident as possible.

Try-out Process (U10)

In May, we will be moving the 2016 age group into our Classic program where they will take part in four sessions of guaranteed training. This is a chance for our staff to work with the players and see if they are coachable and are willing to put in the effort to develop and improve. In these four sessions the staff will also work on the technical side of the game (passing, dribbling, shooting, ball control etc) and also teaching the players the fundamentals of the game. Once these four sessions are finished, we will select teams for the year and will give feedback to any players we don’t feel are at the level at that time for the program.

Cup Seasons

All u11-u14 LOSC Classic teams will participate in Cup seasons. There are four possible cup competitions that our teams may take part in. Presidents Cup, Founders Cup and Founders Cup 2 will take place at the end of the OYSA Fall season. Our top U11 teams will take part in the State Cup each year, the State Cup begins at the end of the OYSA Spring season.

Veo Sports Camera

Our Classic program have access to Veo Cameras, we believe that our Classic players will really benefit from watching their games back. It gives players the chance to see the game from the outside, it is a tool that allows players to sit down and see what they did well and what they can improve on. We want to have all our Classic teams have at least two games per season recorded.
